The name is older than the Testarossa: RM Sotheby’s 1958 250 GT Cabriolet Series I chassis 0809 GT — the 1958 New York show car, sold at Monterey 2026 for $4.9 million — was delivered "in Rosso Metallizzatto [sic] over Naturale leather" and has only ever been repainted in its original color. In RM’s photographs that car is a far brighter metallic red (about #9C1820 in sun) than the Testarossa estimate shown here, so the 1958 paint is almost certainly a different formula under the same generic name; its photo is deliberately not shown against this chip.

The paint itself was not specifically created for the customer as we've often times seen but already existed prior to the speccing of their car. Interestingly enough the color had no specific name and still didn't even 6 months later when they went to the factory to lock in the spec of their 458 Speciale. At that point the personal designer wrote Rosso Coburn on the sample and a new color was born and has since been requested by various other owners. This paint is sometimes nicknamed 'the color of love' by Ferrari, hinting to the passionate couple. It's a deep triple layer red, relatively dark in tone but with a lighter colored metallic flake which gives it a bright glow in direct sunlight. Rosso Imola sits next to Rosso Fiorano and Rosso Fuoco , on the very extensive palette of Ferrari's red paint colors. It's a deep red metallic with a subtle gold / bronze metallic flake, similar to the one of Fuoco but with less depth as that's a 3-layer paint. Overall it also has a slightly less orange undertone when comparing it to Rosso Fuoco, but is certainly on the warmer scale of reds. Ferrari itself puts it on a second model: its magazine says "the 12Cilindri debuted in Rosso Imola, another rosso with an overtly sporting bent" (Ferrari magazine, "Ferrari launch colors: the design process behind signature paints", 2026), so the coupé is listed here beside the 296 GTB and GTS the configurator names.

The metallic version of Rosso Corsa. Ferrari's configurator lists it as ROSSO CORSA MET. under 2-layer special paint, on the current range from the 296 and Roma Spider to the 12Cilindri, Purosangue and F80; carpaints.co describes it as the metallic version of the iconic color, released more recently than the solid. Paint code PPG 266165, read from a factory paint sticker that carries the name as "Rosso Corsa Met.". Owners began specifying it on the 488 in late 2016 — FerrariChat member 997usa took delivery that December and called it "a deep and great color on the 488". The point of it: solid Rosso Corsa goes flat where the light leaves a panel, while the metallic keeps a sheen from every angle — so if you want Rosso Corsa but want it to look shiny at every angle, Rosso Corsa Metallizzato is the better option. Photo estimate: sampled from the front wings of the F8 in direct sun, both sides agreeing within a degree of hue; phone photographs in sunlight push the saturation up, so the real paint likely sits a little less vivid than the value shown, nearer the Rosso Corsa chip. Both cars' colors are as stated by their owners.

This distinctive paint offers remarkable depth and variation, appearing as a rich maroon red and transforming into a vivid, bright red under sunlight. A very rarely seen paint.

In the 2019 season Scuderia Ferrari switched to a matte red paint with their SF90 F1 car which celebrated the company's 90th anniversary. A few years later they celebrated another anniversary with the Ferrari F1-75 for the 2022 season. ‘75’ referencing the anniversary of the Ferrari 125S the first Ferrari to leave the gates of Maranello on March 12th, 1947. This variation of the matte red paint on the F1 cars was accordingly called Rosso Ferrari F1-75 and later that season became available for the whole road-going range of Ferrari cars.
