The story of Rosso Marco Polo
Rosso Marco Polo was created for the Ferrari 458 Italia 20th Anniversary Special Edition, announced in Shanghai on 10 April 2012 to mark twenty years since the first Ferrari for China, a 348 TS, was ordered in Beijing. Ferrari's release described a brand-new color developed specifically for the car, calling it "Marco Polo Red" in English; Italian reports used "Rosso Marco Polo." Production was limited to twenty cars sold only in China. The livery drew on the Chinese "longma" (dragon-horse) idiom, with a golden dragon on the hood, gold and black stripes, gold wheels and a "20th Anniversary Special Edition" plaque. Italian press reported a price of €697,000 and that all twenty had sold by June 2012. Marco Polo, Wikipedia records, was the Venetian merchant who travelled the Silk Road through Asia between 1271 and 1295.
