About Rosso Chiaro
A period Ferrari solid red. 308-328.com lists it among the 308’s solid colors as Glidden-Salchi 20-R-190, later Salchi 599-5-190 (1975 to mid-1981), then Glasurit FER307 (late 1980 to 1985); Four Wheel Drift’s list carries both Salchi numbers, and a FerrariChat member cites Eurospares for 20-R-190 as Rosso Chiaro from 1965 to mid-1969. Owners describe it as more orange than Rosso Corsa. Steve Biagini, who had his 365 BB painted in it, says it has "more of an orange shade in it than Rosso Corsa" and that the difference shows when the car is parked next to a Rosso Corsa car; Barry Wolinsky, who owns a Rosso Chiaro 308 GTB, agrees it shows in bright overhead sun while calling the difference subtle (FerrariChat, December 2005). In his photograph of the two 308s side by side, his car reads about 8–12° of hue further toward orange than the Rosso Corsa car behind it; the sunlit frame clips the saturation, so only that difference is usable. Documented cars: Dino 206 GT chassis 00150, delivered new in November 1968 in "Rosso Chiaro Ferrari (20-R-190)" with Nero leather (Bonhams, Zoute Sale, 11 October 2026; the catalogue does not say whether today’s paint is original); 365 GTB/4 Daytona S/N 15757, delivered new in Rosso Chiaro through Clarke Simpkins Motors of Vancouver and offered by Copley Motorcars with an older repaint in the original Rosso Chiaro, documented by Marcel Massini; and 365 GT4 BB chassis 17967, a right-hand-drive car supplied through Maranello Concessionaires in 1974 that left the factory in Rosso Chiaro over Pelle Blu according to Ferrari’s shipment notes (RM Sotheby’s, London, November 2022) but was later refinished in Rosso Corsa, so its photographs are not used here. The swatch is a low-confidence estimate from Copley Motorcars’ overcast photographs of the Daytona (front-quarter side panel #b32833; darker panels read down to #951720); Bonhams’ sunlit photographs of the Dino read #98021a to #bd0c26 with saturation close to the limit. Car photographs come out bluer than flat chips: read the same way, photographs of Rosso Corsa cars on this site give a median hue of about 350°, against about 2° for its chip. The Rosso Chiaro photographs give about 352° (Bonhams) and 355° (Copley), a slight shift toward orange that fits the owners’ "subtle" difference; side by side with the Rosso Corsa chip, the swatch itself does not show it.
Its published codes come from two supplier systems: Glidden-Salchi (1960s–70s) 20-R-190 — the 20- prefix marks a solid color; Glasurit (early 1980s onward) FER 307 — no /C suffix, so a solid color. Within the Rosso family the closest color is Rosso Maranello Opaco (ΔE 3.5, a close visual match).
