The story of Exposed Carbon
Exposed Carbon is a finish, not a paint. Ferrari's magazine describes the Tailor Made "carbonio a vista", or exposed carbon, option for the Daytona SP3, in which the chassis and body panels are left unpainted under a transparent protective coating that keeps the carbon fiber's native black tone in view. Ferrari says the option required re-thinking the entire assembly of the Daytona SP3's body panels so that joins between carbon sheets do not show, with a tone-on-tone painted section cloaking minor imperfections. Optional "transitional carbon" hues named Rubino, Zaffiro, Malachite, Ambra, Oro and Ametista add a barely perceptible tint over the weave. Ferrari offered the finish solely on the Daytona SP3, the only car in its range with an entire chassis and body in carbon fiber.
