About Prugna Metallizzato
Prugna is a historic and striking color from Ferrari’s palette. It’s a complex tone that’s hard to describe. The name “Prugna,” meaning “plum” in Italian, reflects the color’s elegant, dark plum tone, which can appear more vivid or muted depending on the lighting. Under direct sunlight, a dark purple tone appears while in other conditions the color displays more of a burgundy red to brown tone. The color was mainly available in the 80s and 90s but can be seen on a select number of newer models as a special Tailor Made option.
The story of Prugna Metallizzato
Prugna, Italian for plum, is a Ferrari color of the 1970s and 1980s in two finishes. 308-328.com lists a solid Prugna, Glidden-Salchi 20-R-549, among the 308 GT4's 1973–80 codes and the metallic Prugna, Glasurit FER306/C, from 1983; the Ferrari 400 blog carries "Prugna Met. FER 306/C" in the range used from the 400i of 1984 to the last 412, and a factory sticker transcribed by Four Wheel Drift reads "VERNICE 306 PRUGNA MET.". PCarMarket sold a 1985 308 GTS Quattrovalvole in Prugna, reported as one of 19 US-market cars in the shade, for $55,000 in April 2024. Ferrari's configurator still lists Prugna Met 306/C as an iconic special color, and Autoblog.it reported a Tailor Made 812 Competizione in matte Prugna with Oro stripes in August 2024.
