The story of Grigio Mahmoud
Grigio Mahmoud belongs to the racehorse-named Pininfarina range that the Ferrari 400 blog says was carried over from the 365 GTC/4 to the 365 GT4 2+2 and early 400. The blog lists it in the 18-color standard range as 2.443.931, the 330 GT Registry's Italver and PPG/Italver chip sets carry the same code, and the Registry's Ditzler/PPG table lists "Mahmoud Gray Poly" for 1968–71 as a darker medium gray, Ditzler 32779. Gooding & Company sold 1970 365 GT 2+2 chassis 13269, first sold through the Ferrari dealer in Turin in April 1970 and described as leaving the factory in Grigio Mahmoud Metallizzato, dark gray metallic, for $159,500 in October 2020. ROSSOautomobili writes that the name most likely honors Mahmoud, a light gray thoroughbred bred in France; Wikipedia records him as the 1936 Derby winner, the third of only four grays to win it.
