About Grigio Opaco

Estimated from the body panels of the carpaints.co photo (L'Art de L'Automobile's Scuderia Spider 16M in overcast light; rear quarter panel, 84% of the sampled region). The panels run from #4F555D on the shaded door to #747F8B on the sky-lit bonnet; the F12 in the Ferrari Colors blog photo reads the same bluish dark grey (#444C57–#717983). Corrected 2026-10-25: the earlier value (#727981) was the Ferrari Colors blog's chip, which is the same file the blog publishes for Grigio Medio, a light gloss silver-grey — not this paint. Grigio Opaco is one of the early matte paints by Ferrari back when they were not that common as they are today. This means it also didn't get a proper name and was just simply called matte grey. It seems to be very close to Grigio Silverstone Opaco , a matte grey paint which was introduced later.

The story of Grigio Opaco

Grigio Opaco, literally matte gray, is a name that appears on dealer listings for the 430 Scuderia Spider 16M. Carpaints.co lists it as one of Ferrari's early matte paints, made by PPG, which never received a proper name and was simply called matte gray, and says it is very close to the later Grigio Silverstone Opaco. The Paris dealer L'Art de L'Automobile sold a 16M first registered on July 21, 2009, and delivered by Ferrari Forza of Turin, described as Grigio Opaco without stripe over black Alcantara. Ferrari's 2008 launch text for the 16M, as reproduced in the press, described the standard scheme as black with gray trim, with a tricolor livery as the alternative.
