About Grigio Scuro
Grigio Scuro is a historical paint color from Ferrari that has been around since the 60s where it featured on models like the 250GT. Grigio Scuro translates from Italian to dark grey. We've seen it becoming more and more popular on recent models and it even features on the standard paint range for some. Being a non-metallic paint type it doesn't change much in appearance but it does show some green and brown undertones in certain conditions. As part of recent Paint to Sample updates, Porsche added Grigio Scuro to its range in May 2026 after it was previously requested by a customer through the Porsche Paint to Sample Plus programme. RM Sotheby’s Zurich catalogue (26 September 2026) describes a 488 Spider in the 70th Anniversary livery no. 30, "The Masterpiece", as "Grigio Scuro Metallizzato paintwork with Red Mic stripes". This Grigio Scuro is a solid paint and RM gives no code, so whether that car wears this paint or a metallic variant of the name is not confirmed.
The story of Grigio Scuro
Grigio Scuro, Italian for dark gray, runs from the late 1950s to current Tailor Made work. The 330 GT Registry lists it in Ferrari-supplied records as Italver 18932, 20152 S and 24008 A, and reproduces a Ditzler/PPG row, "Dark Gray (Griglo Scuro)", for 1963–67. RM Sotheby's catalogs the 1959 250 GT Coupé 1427 GT as delivered in Grigio Scuro, and the 1961 250 GT Cabriolet Series II 2931 as originally specified in Grigio Scuro over Pelle Beige. Ferrari relaunched the color among ten historic shades at the Geneva show in March 2007, offered on the 612 Scaglietti. In 2018 Tailor Made finished a 70th-anniversary 488 Spider in Grigio Scuro Metallizzato as livery no. 30, "The Masterpiece"; today carpaints.co records the standard-range solid under PPG code 792.
