The story of Blu Tigullio
Blu Tigullio is documented on one period Ferrari: 250 GT Berlinetta SWB chassis 3169 GT, a 1962 Lusso-specification car that Artcurial calls a unique original color for an SWB. The catalog states it was ordered on October 27, 1961, by Luigi Chinetti, Ferrari's United States importer, for the customer Norman Blank, who requested Blu Tigullio, code 16639, with red Connolly leather. Shown on Pininfarina's stand at the April 1962 New York auto show, it was not taken up by Blank and was later repainted red. Restored to its original color by Carrozzeria Quality Cars and awarded best restoration at the 2023 Cavallino Classic, it sold at Artcurial's W Collection sale in Monaco on May 9, 2024, for €5,530,000. ROSSOautomobili says the name refers to the Gulf of Tigullio in Liguria — the Riviera di Levante bay of Portofino, Rapallo and Chiavari, Wikipedia records.
