About Grigio Medio
Grigio Medio is a historical Ferrari paint that literally translates to "medium grey", describing the appearance of the color. It's a non-metallic shade of grey with subtle green undertones. It closely resembles Grigio Scuro but Medio is just a bit ligher in tone. Between the two Grigio Scuro is also the more popular option, especially since it is now offered as a historical paint from the standard range for recent Ferrari models. BMW has also picked up the paint, offering it from its extended Individual paints catalogue. Although on BMW's you are more likely to see Lamborghini's Grigio Telesto which also is a close match to Medio but Telesto is a darker metallic (pearl) grey.
The story of Grigio Medio
Grigio Medio, medium gray, appears as "grigie medio" in a 1964 Quattroruote list of Ferrari colors reproduced by the 330 GT Registry, and in the Registry's Ferrari-supplied list as Italver 19249. An Italver chip set for Pininfarina cars includes Grigio Medio 19249, and a Ditzler/PPG table gives "Medium Gray (Grigio Medio)" for 1963–67, one row below Grigio Scuro. Ferrari relaunched Grigio Medio at the Geneva show in March 2007 among ten colors selected from its historic catalog, offered on the 612 Scaglietti. Carpaints.co records the current PPG code 791 as a solid, and lists the same paint under BMW and Alpina with the code P6U. No auction lot cataloging a specific chassis in Grigio Medio was found.
