About Giallo Fly
Giallo Fly is a historic Ferrari color that first appeared on the 275 GTB in the mid-1960s. It's unclear where exactly the name of the bright yellow paint came from but it's believed to have been a suggestion by Fiamma Breschi. In her biography she takes credit for the color Giallo Fly, claiming it was her suggestion. Ferrari refused to name the color "Giallo Fiamma" ("Flame Yellow" in Italian), so the name became Giallo Fly instead. Since then a newer version called Nuovo Giallo Fly has also been created.
The story of Giallo Fly
Giallo Fly is one of Ferrari’s historic yellows. Ferrari’s magazine says it was adopted for the first time on a 275 GTB, and calls the account that Fiamma Breschi, widow of Luigi Musso — the Ferrari driver killed in the 1958 French Grand Prix at Reims, Wikipedia records — inspired it a legend. The earliest documented car is 275 GTB Competizione chassis 09027, which Ferrari Classiche records leaving the factory in Giallo Fly on June 14, 1966, four days before it raced at Le Mans for Ecurie Francorchamps and finished second in class; repainted silver and then red over the years, it was returned to Giallo Fly by Classiche. The 330 GT Registry lists the color as 20-Y-191 in a Scaglietti paint-chip book for the 275 GTB, and 308-328.com records a 308-era successor, Nuovo Giallo Fly, under Salchi codes 20-Y-490 and 599-4-490.
