The story of Grigio Ortello
Grigio Ortello is a late-1960s gray from the same Pininfarina chip set as Grigio Mahmoud and Grigio Le Sancy. The 330 GT Registry’s PPG/Italver chip set lists “2.448.813 Grigio Ortello”, and its Ditzler/PPG table carries “Ortello Gray Poly” for 1968–71, a medium dark gray, Ditzler 32780. RM Sotheby’s catalogs 1969 365 GTC chassis 12055, whose certificate of origin dates from February 1969, as leaving the factory in Grigio Ortello over Beige leather. Girardo & Co. sold 365 GTC 12049, ordered by Giuliana Rubeo in Grigio Ortello and registered in Rome in October 1969, and Copley Motorcars lists 365 GTC 12127 as repainted from its original Grigio Ortello in the early 1970s. ROSSOautomobili shows the name on an SF90 XX Stradale and calls the modern interpretation warmer.
