About BP Green
David Piper's BP-sponsored racing green; 488 Spider Tailor Made by Maranello Motors.
The story of BP Green
BP Green is David Piper's racing color. Ferrari's magazine, profiling "the man who raced in green", says his signature came about when former sponsor Esso could no longer support him after the Suez Crisis, so he switched to BP green — he liked picking a color and sticking with it, he told Ferrari — and his 250 LM and 330 P3/4 wore what became known as Piper green. Wikipedia records the bright green as his BP sponsor's, replacing Esso after 1956, on a driver who never liked the classic British racing green; his 250 LM is chassis 8165. ROSSOautomobili pictures a 488 Spider Tailor Made project by Maranello Motors of Cologne, photographed by Julian Sion. Four Wheel Drift lists "Verde BP".
