About Azzurro Hyperion
Earlier versions of this paint were supplied by Glasurit instead of PPG. Azzurro Hyperion is a historic paint: Pininfarina’s 365-era range lists it as 2.443.648 and a 1972 365 GT4 2+2 prototype wore it; carpaints.co dates its Ferrari / Maserati use to the 90s. It's a light shade of blue that leans strongly towards grey when seen under low light conditions. When the light hits it at the right angle the lighter tones come out and a very subtle green undertone can be seen.
The story of Azzurro Hyperion
Azzurro Hyperion is one of the Pininfarina paint names taken from racehorses, used on the 365 range and the early 400 and still on order documentation into early 1978 under code 2.443.648. The 330 GT Registry lists it as 2.443.648/106-A-32 in Italver and PPG/Italver chip sets, and a Ditzler/PPG book records Blue Poly (Hyperion Azzurro) for 1963–71 as Ditzler 13093. Chassis 16293, the third 365 GT4 2+2 prototype, shown at the 1972 Brussels motor show and pictured on the brochure cover, was refinished in its original Azzurro Hyperion before RM Sotheby's sold it for $299,750 at Monterey in 2014. In 2025 RM Sotheby's offered F40 chassis 94647, repainted Azzurro Hyperion during an upgrade program at Furlonger Specialist Cars. Hyperion, Wikipedia records, won the 1933 Derby and St Leger and was champion sire in Britain six times.
