About Azzurro La Plata
Azzurro La Plata is a historic shade of light blue finding its origins in racing as the national racing color of Argentina, worn by the likes of Alberto Ascari as he became Ferrari’s first Formula 1 world champion, winning the title in both 1952 and 1953. The Scuderia Ferrari's suits in the 60s were also in this color, both for the drivers and mechanics. It's a color that was very well liked by Enzo Ferrari himself and thereby found its way onto the road going Ferrari's, still available today as a Tailor Made option albeit in a slightly modified version aptly called Nuovo Azzurro La Plata . In 2024 the Scuderia Ferrari reintroduced the color for the Miami GP together with the slightly darker Azzurro Dino. Charles Leclerc's Formula 24 SF-1 will be wearing a unique Azzurro La Plata livery while Carlos Sainz' F1 car will be wearing Azzurro Dino. Both drivers also had a 296 GTS with a livery
The story of Azzurro La Plata
Ferrari revived Azzurro La Plata for the Miami Grand Prix in May 2024, when its Formula 1 cars wore liveries in this blue and Azzurro Dino, and two 296 GTS Assetto Fiorano carried matching liveries created by the Maranello Style Centre. Ferrari describes the light blue as Argentina's official racing color of the 1950s, worn by Alberto Ascari as a lucky charm, and notes that La Plata is a major city in Argentina — capital of Buenos Aires Province, per Wikipedia. Surtees, Bandini, Scarfiotti and Amon wore blue suits in the 1960s, as did Niki Lauda in his first year with the Scuderia, and mechanics and factory staff wore blue overalls. On May 25, 2026, Ferrari named Azzurro la Plata among the five launch colors of the Luce, whose configurator files it under Special Colors. Ferrari's Tailor Made site also shows an 812 Competizione A in Azzurro La Plata.
